The Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant, organized annually by Fairchild Television, celebrated its 30th anniversary this year with a spectacular finale on November 28 at the River Rock Show Theatre. This year’s theme, “Shining Brilliance, Dreams Come True”, highlighted the transformative journey of women, likening their growth and breakthroughs to the formation of pearls. After three months of intensive training, the eight contestants took to the stage, radiating confidence and grace as they brought to life the values of perseverance and pursuing dreams. Their efforts, polished over time like pearls, culminated in a radiant and inspiring evening.
Over the past three decades, the Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant has cultivated numerous talented women, many of whom have gone on to excel in various fields. To commemorate the pageant’s milestone anniversary, Dr. Thomas Fung, Chairman of Fairchild Group joined by the reigning Miss Chinese Vancouver 2023 Champion Isabella Zhai, Mr. Joe Chan, Vice Chair of Fairchild Media Group, and Mr. Todd Ye, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of Fairchild TV and Talentvision (Western Division), led a celebratory cake-cutting ceremony, wishing the pageant continue to be a platform for young women for achieving their dreams and bringing more excitement to the Chinese community for another 30 years.
The finale was hosted by the charismatic duo of Brian Chiu and Jerry Liu, whose humor and dynamic energy kept the audience engaged throughout the evening. A distinguished panel of judges, including soprano and philanthropist Ms. Jessica Yan Macintosh, Richmond Hospital Infectious Disease Consultant Physician and UBC Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Clement Kwok, Miss Chinese Vancouver 2015 and Miss Chinese International 2016 Champion Ms. Jennifer Coosemans, renowned Composer Dr. Steve Ho, and Pilates & fitness instructor Ms. Min-Hui You (Ann), were tasked with selecting the winners from this year’s talented contestants.
The event opened with a captivating group performance where the eight contestants dazzled in stylish outfits, dancing with precision and flair. Following this lively introduction, each contestant had the chance to showcase her unique talent, enthralling the audience with her creativity and skill. No. 2, Claudia Lam, brought a burst of energy to the stage with her lively hula hoop routine, inspired by Barbie, embodying both grace and playfulness. No. 4, Marina Yu, stunned the audience with an innovative and artistic upside-down painting, leaving everyone in awe of her creativity and precision. No. 1, Shania Fu, mesmerized the crowd with her singing and dancing, exuding a charismatic stage presence that captivated all eyes. No. 7, Justine Ming, impressed with her ingenious quick-change act, featuring elaborate costumes that she had designed herself, showcasing her artistic sense and versatility. No. 8, Jasper Tiffany Chan, delivered a memorable performance in the Fujian dialect, blending singing and dancing in a heartwarming tribute to her cultural roots. No. 3, Jennifer Huang, fulfilled a lifelong dream with a seamless and passionate Latin dance routine alongside her partner, embodying elegance and fiery energy. No. 6, Hilary Chen, displayed a powerful and elegant sword dance, combining strength and poise in a breathtaking performance. Finally, No. 5, Olivia Zou, fused traditional Chinese dance with modern jazz elements, incorporating long silk fans to create a performance that highlighted her extensive training and artistic expression. Each contestant’s performance reflected her individuality and dedication, turning the talent segment into a stunning celebration of creativity, culture, and personal growth.
The contestants lit up the stage in vibrant swimwear, exuding confidence and vitality. Their poised and graceful demeanor shone through as they tackled challenging questions from the hosts and special guests with composure, intelligence, and wit, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. Later, the contestants embraced a timeless elegance as they appeared in exquisite evening gowns paired with luxurious jewelry, radiating sophistication and youthful charm. In a special tribute to the remarkable 30-year history of the Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant, the eight contestants donned iconic stage costumes worn by past Champions, bringing to life the unforgettable highlights of previous pageants. Each outfit reflected its era, seamlessly blending classic elegance with contemporary flair. This homage to heritage and innovation created a poignant and meaningful moment on stage, celebrating the pageant's legacy.
Special guest performer Phil Lam, a talented singer-songwriter, returned to Vancouver to an enthusiastic welcome. Having launched his career after winning the “New Talent Singing Awards Vancouver Audition” in 2007 and earning the 2nd Runner-up at the “International Chinese New Talent Singing Championship”, Phil opened his set with the upbeat track “How About We Dance”, instantly energizing the audience. Accompanied by Miss Chinese Vancouver 2022 Champion Yiyi Wang for a dance to “Once in a Lifetime”, Phil added depth to the evening’s performances. He also debuted a heartfelt song, “Just a Lullaby”, written for his newborn son, leaving the audience deeply moved. Concluding with his iconic track “Mountains and Valleys”, Phil interacted with the crowd, delivering an encouraging message to the contestants: cherish every moment, embrace the stage, and pursue dreams courageously while staying true to oneself.
After meticulous deliberation, the panel of esteemed judges has selected the award winners for the competition.

Fairchild Television is proud to welcome the talented singer-songwriter Phil Lam as the featured performer for the Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant 2024. Returning to his roots in Vancouver, Phil made a special appearance at the Special Guest Performer Press Conference, which was live-streamed on Fairchild Television’s Facebook page, delighting fans with his warm charisma.
Phil Lam grew up immersed in the world of Cantonese music while being raised in British Columbia. His career began in 2007 when he won the “New Talent Singing Awards Vancouver Audition” and subsequently earned the 2nd Runner-up at the “International Chinese New Talent Singing Championship”. These milestones propelled him into a flourishing music career, marked by numerous albums, solo concerts, and accolades, including the“Male New Comer Bronze Award”, “Ultimate Singer-Songwriter Gold Award”, “Top 10 Professional Picks at the Ultimate Song Chart Award” and “Jade Solid Gold Award”. In addition to his own acclaimed work, Phil has composed hits for numerous renowned artists and mentors young talents on TVB’s popular music competition show, Stars Academy 2.
At the press conference, emcee Mary Lo welcomed Phil back to Canada, praising his remarkable journey from Vancouver to the global stage as an inspiring example for the next generation. Reflecting on his career, Phil shared that his early days were challenging, but his unwavering passion kept him going through 17 years of “Mountains and Valleys”. He encouraged the eight contestants to savor every moment on stage, as opportunities like these have the potential to transform lives.
Phil also gave a glimpse into his personal life, sharing his joy as a new father to a 3-month-old son. He joked about how much he misses his child while away and expressed heartfelt gratitude to his wife and mother-in-law for their support, allowing him to dedicate himself fully to this performance. To honor Phil’s special appearance, Mr. Todd Ye, the Vice President and Assistant General Manager of Fairchild Television & Talentvision (Western Division), presented him with a framed, autographed photo collage of the eight finalists as a token of appreciation. He also wished Phil a successful performance and a spectacular finale for the Pageant.
The Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant 2024 Grand Finale will take place on November 28, at the River Rock Show Theatre. The program will air on FTV1 on December 1, at 9:00pm. Dressed elegantly in pink, the eight contestants made their media debut, showcasing grace, confidence, and charisma in their self-introductions. No.1 Shania Fu who loves singing and dancing, aiming to spread her positivity and energy to others. No.2 Claudia Lam balances strength with a soft side and hopes to discover her inner beauty and push her boundaries. A long-time fan of the pageant, No.3 Jennifer Huang, is fulfilling her dream of gracing the stage. The youngest, No.4 Marina Yu, excels across business, science, and art. No.5 Olivia Zou, skilled in Chinese dance and holding dual degrees in economics and psychology, aspires to spread love throughout the community. No.6 Hilary Chen is an entrepreneur and wants to pursue her acting dream. No.7 Justine Ming, an artist at heart, believes each life stage has made her stronger and more confident. Finally, No.8 Jasper Tiffany Chan has a passion for the stage and recently showcased her musical talent in Sunshine Nation 2024. These eight remarkable young women are ready to embrace the challenges in the upcoming final round, promising an unforgettable show for the audience.

They will choose the Champion and other award winners, with five special awards alongside the Champion, First Runner-Up, and Second Runner-Up titles: the “Beauty Court Glowing Attraction Award”, “Lukfook Jewellery Miss Photogenic”, “Brian Jessel BMW Outstanding Intelligence Award”, “Imperial Bird’s Nest AI Infinite Radiance Award” and “Royal Jubilee Cordial Beauty Award”.
The “Lukfook Jewellery Photo Contest” will be held on November 2 at Aberdeen Centre, offering the winner an $800 prize and a chance to have their photos publicly displayed. The “Lukfook Miss Photogenic” title will be awarded based on global audience votes, now open on MCVP website until November 24. Voters have a chance to win an 18K gold diamond bracelet by Lukfook Jewellery. Between November 15 and 28, audience can also participate in the “Beauty Court Who is the Champion Guessing Game” on MCVP website, choosing their favorite contestant for a chance to win prizes.
